Tony H. Dorado began Dorado Tax Service at 3850 East 14th Street (now International Boulevard) in 1954 as one of only two offices in Oakland providing Income Tax and Bookkeeping services in Spanish and English. As most of his clientele was the Spanish-speaking community he was also much sought after for his bilingual skills in interpreting all manner of legal and governmental documents. In the ensuing thirty years, he formed many lasting friendships among his clients and their families attending to their needs with professionalism, honesty, and respect.
Upon his sudden death from a heart attack in 1984 his son, Jose A. Dorado, and longtime assistant, Josephine Torres, partnered to continue providing Tax and Bookkeeping services in his tradition to the East Bay Spanish-speaking community. In 2004 Jose and Josephine moved their office to San Leandro, then in 2010 Jose split the business with Josephine in order to come back to Oakland.
Currently, the team in our Fruitvale office includes America Velasquez, Adriana Lopez, and Jose A. Dorado. As our clientele has grown, so has our capacity to serve including the certification of Jose as an Enrolled Agent able to represent clients in front of the Internal Revenue Service. We continue to expand our capacity to serve through providing not just Tax and Bookkeeping services but also Community Education and Political Literacy.
